Strider knives closing.5/7/2023 ![]() ![]() Oh and keep saving up, because once you've owned a Strider design for a while, you just keep acquiring more. For less than $100 you'll have a fine knife and a proper prying tool. ![]() Get yourself an 889 and an Atwood Prybaby. The liners on my 882 are the same thickness as the 889s, the increased cost is probably just the blade steel as ATS-34 is an imported Japanese steel. Buck also provides a no-nonsense lifetime warranty and these particular knives are US made. The steel liners on the 882 and 889 are heat treated, strong and thick enough (IMO if you need a folding knife that absolutely cannot have the lock fail then what you need is a fixed blade knife). Mick Strider just announced that Strider Knives will be closing its doors. I EDC the SnG, but use the others when traveling by air since I can afford to lose those to the grabby handed TSA baggage checkers. The Strider/5.11 SMF knife boasts features including a custom-made pivot pin. While the SnG is undeniably the strongest lock of the three designs, it also costs more than the other three knives combined. I have an 882-SBTG (G-10 and ATS-34), two 889s (in OD and Black), and an SnG. Even in the world's strongest gorilla grip you could not get the blade to close inadvertently since you are gripping the blade itself. The way Strider designed the knife when opened, the index finger goes in the large choil of the blade itself and the thumb is on the ramp. Unique features: The knife handle is engraved with a M-40 rifle and the handle has the outline. I don't get why folks think this knife has to pass the "spine whacking" test. In closing, I'd say if you can inspect the 889 your buying and make sure the lockups solid, it's an extremely good bang for your buck beater knife. I only wish the 882 was available in plain edge. I really love the 882, and the ergonomics on them all are very very good, especially considering the squareness of the grip. Buck just gave me a new one that had no problems at all, and autographed it to boot (Having a Senator for an Uncle rules). I heard at first that the production knives (SnG, folders, fixed blades) were going to be discontinued. Apparently due to a falling out between McBurger and Dwayne Dwyer. Luckily, I was fortunate enough to have friends in high places, and C.J. 1 Ok so I am confused I saw the statement that Strider Knives was closing down. I took it in for repairs, only to find out they replaced it, but the new knife did exactly the same thing. The 889 that I originally purchased however, would close at even the slightest spine whack. ![]() ![]() The 882 (I looked it up) locks up perfectly, just left of center, and is rock solid, I cannot get it disengage. Comes with a kydex sheath, original box and a nylon sheath. The handle has carbon fiber scales with blue hardware, lanyard hole at the butt. 201' blade stock and 1.167' blade depth, full tang construction. I do not believe the liners are too thing, and seem reasonably thick enough, especially considering the extreme thinness of some seen on other knives. This Nephilim by Heretic Knives features a double-edged and DLC Black blade. Stay tuned for a full review along with my modifications.I own the 889, and all the upgraded versions, I can't entirely recall the model names the best one has G-10 and either a 154cm or ATS-34 blade, depending on when you bought it. Two modifications I have made to my personal Strider are the cord-wrapped handle and the IWB belt clip I added to the Kydex sheath to allow for inside-the-waistband carry. The Strider ED Skeleton has almost identical specs, but at a reduced price. The most sought-after knife for this is the Tracker Dan Bloodshark, which is damn near impossible to find, and if you do find one you’re going to pay well over $300 for it. For improved grip, the knifes top has thumb ramp. Other than that, this is an outstanding knife.īottom line/overall performance: For a while now I’ve been on the hunt for a small fixed-blade knife capable of being carried inside the waistband for use as a defensive blade and everyday utility knife. Strider SMF is an illustration of the caliber and craftsmanship to which Strider Knives is accustomed. Plus, it comes with a Kydex sheath.Ĭons: It’s a smaller knife, so if you have larger hands it may not grip well. Its been reported but not confirmed that Mick Strider just announced that Strider Knives will be closing its doors. Lightweight and slim, the Skeleton is easy to conceal. Pros: This knife is considered the most affordable Strider knife on the market. It’s made of 154CM steel-tough material and made here at home in the U.S. Can be carried either as a neck knife or concealed inside the waistband. ![]()
